Counselling

We can usually find a way using our inner sense of what is best for us, but life does not always run to plan and there may be times when we lose touch with our natural tendency and may need some extra help to move forwards, sometimes experiencing feelings that may lead to psychological difficulties.

 

Speaking with a counsellor often provides the opportunity to discover ourselves and take time to reflect on how we manage change in our lives. It can also promote greater self-esteem and assertiveness, and help us learn new skills for building effective relationships as well as develop solutions to issues that have previously overwhelmed or negatively affected us.

 

Being heard, understood and valued by another person can help to unlock our potential to change, grow and find inner strength. It can feel good to be free of the burdens that you originally came into counselling to address.  My aim is to help you understand what may be going on in your life, look at what you might like to change and empower you to do so.

How we work together

I work in a non-directive way which means I will follow your lead in whatever you wish to talk about. My main aim is to help you, via identifying patterns and reflection, to become more self-aware and make meaningful change to your life.

 

We will work collaboratively together with regular reviews to ensure you feel you are making good progress.

Your first session

Counselling sessions are usually weekly and last for 50 minutes, at a mutually agreed time. In our first session, I will start getting to know you, and carry out an initial assessment, including the reason for seeking therapy and your goals from the therapy.  You do not need to prepare anything although it can be helpful to think about what you are hoping to achieve from counselling.

 

It is also a chance for you to meet me and see if I am the right counsellor for you.  We can discuss any questions you might have about the way we will work and give you an idea of what our sessions might be like.

Number of sessions needed

This totally depends on you and what you would like to get out of coming to therapy.  There is no maximum or minimum; we can take it at your pace and review how things are going at every session. I can offer both short and long-term therapy.

My availability

I have sessions available Monday to Friday, please let me know your preferences and I will try and accommodate them.
